Friday Fill In # 3

Janet has some great questions posted this week over at Friday Fill Ins - and although I'm late out the gate, here are my responses for this week!

  1. Learning how to fly is high up on my bucket list.
I'm an ignoramus - I had to look up what a bucket list was. If anyone else is wondering, it's a list of things to do before you die.
  2. My favorite quote is "The sole earthly judge of right and wrong is success."; it's from Adolf Hitler - and fortunately, history has proven him wrong.
  3. Patti Ann Colt and Kelly McCrady inspired me to start blogging.
  4. Strawberries are best with whipped cream.
Which is why I had that as part of my breakfast today!
  5. I was shooting people in the last dream I remember having.
I think I have rage issues.
  6. The most enjoyable time to go for a walk is in the early evening.
  7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to plenty of down time after a really hectic week, tomorrow my plans include writing and flooring, and Sunday, I want to go to church and relax with my husband!
Again, no linkie, but leave me some comment love! Mwah!

Getting Over Shopping Phobia

I'm not really much of a shopper. I'm a cheapskate, going to multiple stores just to get what I need is tiring, I hate battling crowds, malls make me nauseous because the people there are irritating and disgusting, and well, it's inconvenient. Shopping online is a cure to some of those issues, but it's still a pain in the butt to be bop from store to store to store in order to actually get what I want.

I found a cure to my shopping phobia, however! The perfect cross between the searching power of Google and the information available from Wikipedia, it's called ShopWiki. After I found it, I decided to test it out with something that I've been putting off buying: additional memory for my laptop. I used the link from the main page to go to the laptop computers page and promptly learned more about laptops than I ever would have known to even seek out!

So after joyriding through a few other wiki pages - which are fabulous and informative and, just like Wikipedia, allow users to provide updates as necessary - I tried out the Google-like search function to see if I could actually find the perfect place to buy new memory. Voila! A zillion different types of memory, plus information on which online stores to go to, in order to buy it. Fast, easy and fabulous. Addictive, too...I've been stuck on this site looking up wiki pages for hours now!

Anyone remember our funny story about lamps (lampshades) and our wedding? I even ended up searching for lamps and, in particular, reading lamps. Turns out that when I find a site that makes shopping easy, I start expanding on the list of what I need - and since there's not a great lamp next to the loveseat in our new living room configuration, guess what's next on my list to buy??

Go give ShopWiki a look - maybe you'll get sucked in like I was! Fun site!

Friday Feast #16

I'm late to the game this week...but late is better than never!

The Chef has served up quite the assortment of goodies this week, so with no further adieu, my Friday Feast!

Appetizer
Do you consider yourself to be an optimist or a pessimist?
It really depends on the situation. Thinking about my own life, I'm an optimist. Thinking about the future of this country, especially if Obama is elected, I'm definitely a pessimist.

Soup
What is your favorite color of ink to write with?
I love writing in purple, but it seems that every time I buy a purple pen, it's either lost or snatched!

Salad
How often do you get a manicure or pedicure? Do you do them yourself or go to a salon and pay for them?
I don't get manicures unless something special is going on - formal event, wedding, etc. I get a pedicure a few times a year at the salon, and handle it myself the rest of the time.

Main Course
Have you ever won anything online? If so, what was it?
Um...I have won some minor short story writing contests that I entered online. My husband just won a sleeping bag!

Dessert
In which room in your house do you keep your home computer?
The desktop will be set up in the library-turned-office as soon as I get done rebuilding it. The laptop goes wherever I want it to! :-)

Your turn! No linkie - just leave me a comment!

Weekend Recap and Goals 06/09

Not much to recap, quite honestly. I started getting sick the middle of last week, and despite my best efforts at rest and the medication I'm allowed to take, it's still getting progressively worse. Unfortunately, I have a trip to CA that I can't put off on my calendar tomorrow, but I'm afraid that the last place I belong is on a plane. Hopefully, I can just sleep...

What I accomplished last week:
  • I got 21 of my backlogged books reviewed over at Read and Release - I'm only behind by 10, now, 4 of which I actually finished last week. Feel like I have a load off just to have accomplished that much! Nice to see that my new posts have brought in new readers, as well! Love it!
  • Added about 3000 words to the short story I'm working on for a contest. Not as much as I wanted, but good progress and I still have some time.
  • Implemented new design to 2 of my blogs - yay!
What I didn't get to: (AKA this week's goals)
  • Still have those 10 books to review...and I'm busily in the midst of a new one, Yeager, right now. I love Chuck Yeager! Have I mentioned that?
  • Critiques would be nice to do...still have a few chapters I need to get through. Can't critique well when I can't see straight, so hopefully this sickness goes away so I can be productive!
  • Finish short story - a couple hours on the plane tomorrow ought to get me within striking distance of the end.
  • Get well!
  • That whole big announcement thing...coming! Promise!
That's about all, kids! I'm all icky right now, so it's off to bed so I can spend 8 hours on a plane (there and back) tomorrow in order to facilitate a 3 hour meeting. Normally a fun time but being sick, it's just ick.

Manic Monday #15

Happy Monday, ya'll!

What is your ideal age?
Thirty. I'm not thirty, yet, and really, I'm ok with the age that I am, but I still feel like I'd get more respect at work if I was just a little bit older. (Of course, I've been telling myself that for the SEVEN years I've been out of college...)

What is your best excuse for being late?
My cat puked. (I've used this - because it's true! It sometimes takes quite awhile to clean up cat puke! And if I don't clean it up, the dogs will eat it, so guess what? It's worth being late.)

If you had to give yourself a nickname what would it be?
Queen. Now bow to me! :-)

Your turn!
